Volkswagen Amarok V6 Aventura

VW Amarok V6 Aventura

REVIEW

In years gone by, when you thought of a pickup truck (outside of the U.S.) you thought of a workman, carrying around their equipment or hauling rubbish to and from their site. But more recently manufacturers have started adding more and more luxury to their pickups and they can now be used daily, feeling just like an SUV to drive. Mercedes has just launched their X-Class, but the first premium pickup came from Volkswagen with this – their Amarok. The Amarok has seriously butch styling, with massive headlights, a bold VW grille and swollen wheelarches, but step inside and you’re greeted by a typically high quality, well laid out, upmarket VW interior. Under the bonnet lies a 255bhp 3.0 litre V6 turbodiesel engine which gives good economy combined with decent performance too. With the acres of room in the rear seats and of course the load bed this practical pickup is the perfect all-round car if you need to lug sports equipment like bikes around. With the 8-speed automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive it drives really well in all weather too. This is top-spec Aventura trim as well, so you get all the toys like leather seats, 20-inch alloys, SatNav system, xenon headlamps and heated seats and windscreen.
